Our story

Bridget and Ethan are the joys of my life. I love being home with them every day. It is such a gift to have them home and healthy. It has been a very bumpy road to get here. when I was only 24 weeks pregnant I went to the hospital having pre-term labor. They were fortunate to be able to stop the labor at that time but I was told that I was going to remain in the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy. This was Aug 28 and the babies were due Dec 9th! we new that they would be coming earlier than that but they wanted to hold off as long as possible. Well the labor continued to happen and with the help of a lot of medication (magnesium sulfate) they were able to stop it every time, but I was very sick. We hung on for a few weeks and then at 26 1/2 weeks Bridget's water broke. My care stayed the same as I stayed on bed rest. finally at 29 1/2 weeks they couldn't stop the labor any longer and it was time. By a miracle Joseph was already on his way to the hospital to visit me in the middle of the afternoon and was just able to make it as they ran me down the hall to delivery. At 3:45pm Sept 26, 2007 Bridget Rose Wilson was born. She was 2 pounds and 6 ounces. She came out crying which is amazing so early. The doctors quickly started to work on her but they were nice enough to let Joseph come over and take some pictures of her so he could show me. She was a tiny little fighter. She was moving all around and trying to pull out her breathing tubes. At 3:46 Ethan Joseph Wilson was born. He was 3 pounds. He came out crying as well and Joseph took pictures to show me. It was wonderful to see them safe and doing so well. They rushed them off to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) and I went off the recovery. When they were then transferring me from recovery to my room for the night I asked when I would be able to see the babies. the nurse said probably the next day when I can get out of bed. At that time one of the neonatologist was there and gave then permission to take me into the NICU at that time. They are all so surprised because they never let people do that. I was very lucky to have that experience. So I got to go in and see my beautiful babies for the first time! It was so wonderful, it got me through the night until I was able to go the next day to visit them. Ethan spent 59 days in the NICU and Bridget spent 66 days.
